WHO: Chris Turney is an award-winning British and Australian climate scientist, entrepreneur and optimist at the University of Technology Sydney. Chris champions the value of science in decision-making, and works with governments, industry, and communities to inform on policy and technology deployment, with a passion for reaching net-zero carbon pollution. He was a Founding Director and Inventor of New Zealand-based clean tech company CarbonScape which has developed technology to convert plant material into locally-produced, sustainable, bioengineered graphite for lithium-ion batteries. Chris is also a Director of the Australian NSW Government's Environment Protection Authority (EPA), responsible for delivering a thriving and healthy environment for his state, and Director at Cicada Innovations, Australias leading incubator for startups and scaleups working on science and engineering innovations, including a focus on climate tech. Chris is a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society, the Royal Society of Arts, the Geological Society of London, the Royal Geographical Society and the Advance HE.
